Who are they kidding?
I get a couple of "women's" magazines. You know the ones, they have all types of tips for weight loss, cooking, parenting, travel, etc. I love to read them. I even save some of the things in there, but realistically, there is no way that I'm doing this stuff. Case in point, this year I have several high school seniors that I want to give gifts to as they head off to college. I was so excited when one of my magazines came with the title "Great Gifts for Grads". I need that, I thought to myself. But as I flipped through the pages, I was stunned at what they thought was a great gift. An outdoor cinema ($200)? A digital camera ($120)? A digital sound bag that carries your MP3 player with speakers ($70)? I was looking more along the $20-$25 range (or less)! I was a little stunned by that. Who are they speaking to? Obviously not me. I love these kids, but I love to eat too. So I'm pleading to anyone out there--if you've got any *less expensive* ideas for graduates, I'd love to hear them! And none too soon!!

My favorite gift to give to grads is the book by Dr Suess, "Oh, The Places You Will Go". I like to make cards from scratch (as you know) and make a personal note about how they can do anything they set their mind to. Live life & have fun! The years after high school can be the funnest if done right! What's right? What you want to do!

My favorite graduation gifts are things that can actually use. I put together a laundry kit (mesh laundry bag, detergent, Downy ball, & a roll of quarters) or a food survival kit with food,(Ramen noodles and anything else you can toss in the microwave)plastic cups, utensils, and plates and a dishtub to do their dishes in.
The price is right and I know that the stuff will get used!!
