About a week ago, I went through Tessa's room with a fine tooth comb, culling out a lot of garbage, unused toys, and too small clothes and costumes. I reorganized her toys, rearranged her furniture, and took out all the stuff she hasn't played with or used in months. It's a thing of beauty! And I ended up watching two movies while I did it (thank you portable DVD player that Tessa got from the grandparents).
In going through everything, I found a bunch of cassette tapes. Most were of preschool songs, which went out to the garage, but I also found two other cassettes that had John Bytheway talks on them.
If you don't know who John Bytheway is, he is a motivational speaker who happens to be LDS. He has some really great talks and so I saved them, put them in her music basket, and didn't think much about it.
Then, earlier this week, I went in to turn off Tessa's music when I was going to bed, and guess what she's listening to? She's listening to John Bytheway. My nine year old is listening to a young adult speaker. It reminded me of something from a long time ago.
I'm pretty sure that AJ can recite this tape from memory. He used to listen to this tape every night before he went to bed. I would go by his door and hear the voice of John Bytheway, telling me to "choose the sprite, when the coke was placed before you." In the morning, I would go in and switch the tape around so he could hear the other side. The tape was "What are you carrying in your backpack?" and now Tessa is listening to it every day.
I guess that's much better than Hannah Montana, right?

We listened to a John Bytheway talk the other day and for the first five minutes or so I just kept thinking about that song. I remember AJ listening to them all the time! I love him!
