Today I was reading an article entitled "Untethering Ourselves from the Distractions of Technology". You can guess what it was about, right? The author started by telling of how she was talking with her young children about how she found information when she was a child from a set of books called encyclopedias. They were fascinated about these so called encyclopedias and wanted to know more.
She discussed about how much we have now, right at our finger tips! She says, "Technology is ever present. IT doesn't close at 5 o'clock for dinner or make a space for family time. We could spend all day simply refreshing our email or commenting to friends on Facebook. We could spend an entire life staring at burnished beauty on Pinterest while our own houses decay around us." Ouch. Pinterest. Yea, time waster for me.
The solution to that is we need to be disciplined to pick the best information to spend our time on! Another quote I liked, "We have a banquet in front ofus, and given the choice between potato chips and broccoli, we will most always choose chips. They taste good and they're easy on the teeth. It takes more work to chrunch through broccoli, and while we know it's good for us, we can't deny that it tastes like grass." (Except that I love broccoli. Although I would probably still choose those potato chips.)
My goal for this week: Choose more broccoli to chew on, and less time filler potato chips.
Who's with me? ;)
